tAtTeReD tArOt: Origins & Kickstarter Update

What inspired tAtTeReD tArOt?
So many things. Everything. And then nothing. And then, really what it was is, I was going to school and living with my babies, and wanted to learn something new. Something that I had never learned about. And it was tarot. And that came through conversations with cousins and different people that were important in my life at that time and asking people, “What are you talking about or thinking about these days?” And it was tarot.
Is tarot magic?
Tarot is magical. And I can only say that because of my tarot story in particular. A thought or conversation about tarot led to paintings about tarot (which were derived from various YouTube readings, PBS, all kinds of documentaries and things I was watching regarding tarot). So, the idea that a thought becomes a thing… I said a word spell – I thought a spell – and I painted 80 cards, plus. And then we actually have, through the means of Shae, a physical card deck that is all over the country and outside of it. So that sounds like magic if… that’s what magic is.
Define tAtTeReD tArOt.
tAtTeReD tArOt is a culmination of ideas and thoughts and images now, that try to tell a story of something or someone who is a whole bunch of pieces scattered out all over the place… and not really knowing what the complete picture should look like, but knowing that there’s pieces everywhere.
So in tAtTeReD tArOt we use the upper and lower case because it causes distraction from what we have been taught is regular, good, grammatical... It kind of just breaks free from some normal traditions and says hey, it's however you want it. So, this is how I wanted it, so this is how I did it.
The name of it started out tAtTeReD tArOt: The fool's journey to self because it followed the traditional path of tarot as I was learning it at that time. Then it evolved into tAtTeReD tArOt: The prodigal fool's journey to self, which incorporated some of my early Christian religious beliefs. One particular story in the bible that's always very sweet to me is the Parable of the Prodigal Son. It shows of the fool who goes out on a journey and experiences some things, and then decides to go back home after having somewhat of an awakening of what home was, and what this other thing was.
We used the imagery of Medusa as tAtTeReD tArOt’s original front of card image because I loved the story of Medusa at the time, because it felt real personal. And there's many stories of Medusa, but the one I resonated with the most was the one where she was someone who would be considered pretty wholesome… and maybe was taken advantage of. And in that additional traumas occurred. And where I was taught a story that she was some hideous, gory monster that would turn you into a stone rock if you looked into her eyes; it was really more of something else where she had been punished (or so it was thought she had been punished), to not be able to fully feel the embrace of another person again through eyes – which is very very important. And that was done by someone she loved.
So we moved from that imagery because we decided while Medusa is badass, she is actually used as a medical symbol in many places, and over places that require protection. Her head and her hair and her eyes were used in that manner. I felt like I had done tons of research on that so I decided hey, Medusa’s cool. Even the imagery of her transformed over some time.
And then we moved to the energy of the twin flame. So it was kind of with Medusa, I was addressing the divine feminine energy through the learning of tAtTeReD tArOt. And then new life circumstances were happening with me and I learned of the twin flame journey as I was creating and trying to complete this card [deck] – at that time it wasn’t even supposed to be a deck – it was just tarot art. And then I started seeing the potentiality of it turning into something that I wanted other people to be able to touch and see. And what way that could be, eventually, like 4 years later, was cards.
