I Am Strong

I spy a woodpecker…

I’ve been here a long time. I’ve seen many come and go. None ever stayed. No, not one.

I am strong.

I alone have held together the ground which all legged creatures trod.

I am strong

I breathe in, hold, and exhale the winds air.

I am strong.

I drink, store, and release the rains water.

I am strong

Both inside and out, I am home, safety, protection, and refuge for all.

I am strong

My wisdom is ageless, my knowing timeless, and my being is faithfulness.

I am Strong

No, neither the bird, man, worm, snow, rain, nor wind stay. They all come and then go. Even parts of me come and then go.

"I Am Strong" is a first-person reflection from the perspective of a tree, emphasizing its enduring presence and essential role in the natural world. The tree recounts how it has existed for a long time, witnessing countless beings—humans, animals, and elements of nature—come and go, while it alone remains rooted and steadfast. Through repeated affirmations of strength ("I am strong"), the tree highlights its physical and spiritual resilience.

It describes its role in stabilizing the ground, purifying the air, managing water, and providing shelter and refuge for countless creatures. The tree is portrayed not just as a part of the ecosystem but as a vital, life-sustaining force. It symbolizes continuity, protection, and timeless wisdom. Despite being subject to change—losing parts of itself over time—the tree accepts this cycle, reaffirming its core identity and strength in the face of impermanence. The poem ultimately honors the tree as a powerful, faithful guardian of life.
